5 stars! Narrated by Gulabji, a jaded lady of the night, Saawariya tells the story of Ranbir Raj’s arrival in town. who just wants to love and be loved. He meets a quiet stranger in a dark alley and it’s love at first sight–except she is awaiting the return of her lover.
3 stars! tries to put her husband’s cousin out of her mind; she’s successful until they encounter one another at Court.
5 stars! Just after coming home from the faculty mixer at 2:30AM, Martha informs her professorial husband George that they have guests coming over— Nick, the rising star of the biology department, and his mousy wife Honey. The younger couple become a vehicle for Martha and George’s bitter relationship, propelled by contempt and alcohol.
4 stars. Bored housewife begs an American ex-pat to teach her to play chess.
4 stars! It doesn’t pass the Bechdel Test. There are gratuitous explosions. It toes the line with stereotypes. But Tropic Thunder was one of my favorite movies of 2008.
